Chicago Sun Times business section article about the New GTW nighthawkfreight train from Chicago to Detroit Michigan. Circa 1982.

I recently found this fogotten newspaper article I had clipped out from the Chicago Sun Times newspaper way back sometime around 1982. (Wow!)

This photo was taken during the early 1980's near West 55th Street and South Saint Louis Avenue, at the now long gone Grand Trunk Western Railroad Elsdon Yard on the southwest side of Chicago.

The GTW had just began a nightly Chicago to Detroit freight train called The Nighthawk. This photo appeared in the business section of the Chicago Sun Times newspaper.

Times can change quickly for one unexplained reason or another.
The following year in October of 1983, the GTW had closed Elsdon Yard for good. A small part of it today is being used as a construction materials supply depot for the succesor railroad Canadian National, while the rest of the former GTW Elsdon Yard is slowly being redevelped for other real estate development projects.
