The Grand Trunk western Railroad Elsdon Yard locomotive terminal. ( Gone.) Chicago Illinois USA. October 1983., a photo by Eddie from Chicago on Flickr.
I took this photo at the Grand Trunk Western Railroad Elsdon Yard locomotive terminal, in October of 1983.
An era of neighborhood Chicago railroading was coming to a close on the southwest side of Chicago, as the GTW Elsdon Yard, was in it's final week of operation.
A former Detroit, Toledo & Ironton EMD roadswitcher acquired through merger in 1981 by the GTW, is viewed idling on the ready track by the diesel fuel storage tank west of South Kedzie Avenue.
One week later, and this terminal and 1914 built steam era roundhouse would be abandoned.
