Gray Illinois Central "New Image" caboose. Chicago Illinois. May 1987., a photo by Eddie from Chicago on Flickr.
I took this photo looking east from the top of the South Pulaski Road overpass bridge in Chicago, way back in May of 1987.
The Illinois Central Gulf Railroad had recently reorganized, sold off a number of former Gulf, Mobile & Ohio railroad lines to new upstart regional railroads, and decided to re use the original name Illinois Central, with a new A,T & T style corporate logo.
As part of this new image, the Illinois Central began to repaint a number of still active cabooses, into this new light gray color scheme shown here.
This I.C transfer freight train, is viewed entering the east end of the Belt Railway of Chicago Clearing Yard facility.
