The southwest corner of South Archer and Kedzie Avenues. Chicago Illinois. June 1988. ( Gone.), a photo by Eddie from Chicago on Flickr.
A popular local neighborhood business that existed many years ago in Chicago's Brighton Park neighborhood, was the Community Smoke Shop at the southwest corner of South Archer and Kedzie Avenues.
This little neighborhood corner establishment, was a place where many local residents and commuters riding and transfering from the Chicago Transit Authority bus lines, would stop and buy cigarettes, lottery tickets, newspapers, magazines as well as snacks and refreshments.
At almost any given time, You could usually find local elderly Brighton Park neighborhood residents getting together here, and chatting with the store manager or each other.
Long gone , today this is the site of a Walgreens Drug Store with a parking lot.
I took this photo back in June of 1988.
Thanks.
Eddie K.
