New crosstracks for Hawthorne Junction. Chicago / Cicero Illinois USA. August 2011., a photo by Eddie from Chicago on Flickr.
I took this photo during a recent visit to Hawthorne Junction, located immediately on the Chicago city limits border at Cicero Illinois.
The old beat up and quiete worn out crosstracks where the Belt Railway of Chicago, and the Canadian National ex Illinois Central Railroad / Iowa Division Mainline meet at the border of west suburban Cicero Illinois at a location known as Hawthorne Junction, will soon be getting a new and much needed replacement set of diamonds.
Several years of constant and heavy pounding by numerous long and slow moving transfer freight trains 24 -7, have taken their toll on this and many other Chicago area rail junctions.
This prefabricated set of crosstracks, was photographed immediately east of the current diamonds at Hawthorne Junction.
