The steam to diesel transition era in H.O Scale.

I took this photograph recently, at the Oak Park Society of Model Engineers,H.O Scale Model Railroad Club.

This image almost looks like it could have been taken in central Illinois during the early to mid 1950's. During this period, many North American railroads were converting from steam to diesel locomotives.

Mainline steamers like fellow club member Martin's Broadway limited Imports New York Central Railroad Clas J 1E 4-6-4 Hudson steam locomotive, worked side by side with engines like My Life Like Proto 2000 Illinois Central Railroad EMD SW 9 yard switcher in the foreground.

This was a common but quickly vanishing scene during the 1950's on many American railroads.
