I took this photo during a une 2008 visit to Hawthorne Junction at the Chicago city limits.
The Illinois Central Railroad became yet another fallen flag railroad in 1999, when it was purchased and acquired through merger by the Canadian National Railroad.
I spotted this gray and relatively un graffiti tagged 1990's era covered hopper car from the former Illinois Central, in transit aboard a southbound Canadian National transfer train.
This train is viewed heading southbound over the Belt Railway of Chicago, and passing through the now Canadian national ex Illinois Central crosstracks.
