Former Detroit, Toledo & Ironton Railroad EMD roadswitchers at the former GTW Elsdon Yard site. Chicago Illinois. June 1984.

I took this photograph on a hazy and humid summer afternoon, way back in June of 1984.

Several former Detroit, Toledo & Ironton Railroad EMD roadswitchers acquired through merger by the Grand Trunk Western Railroad in 1981, are viewed parked on the curve just immediately north of West 51st Street, at the recently closed GTW Elsdon Yard.

After the Grand Trunk Western closed Elsdon Yard in October of 1983, this small segment located by the little yard office building, would serve as a makeshift locomotive terminal and crew change headquarters until September of 1986.

Locomotives were often fueled here via a tractor and trailer semi tanker truck when needed.
