Chicago & West Towns Railway 1924 built electric streetcar # 141 under restoration. The Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois USA. June 2001.

I took this photo on a June 2001 visit to the Illinois Railway Museum located in Union Illinois.

Chicago & West Towns Railway # 141 was built in 1924, by
the Mc Guire Cummings Car Company. It is the only known surviving Chicago & West Towns electric streetcar today.

Car # 141 operated mostly on the West Towns La Grange line,
wich is known today as the Pace Route # 322 Cermak / La Grange
bus route.

The Chicago & West Towns gradually began phasing out electric streetcar lines begining around 1940. The La Grange line was the last to go. The last day of service was April 10th 1947, and was soon converted to 100% bus operation.

The museum board had just recently gave the green light to take car # 141 off of static display, and mechanically restore it.
