An interesting comparison of Chicago Surface Lines equipment. The Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois USA. June 2001.

I was definately at the right place and right time, on a June 2001 visit to the Illinois Railway Museum. I spotted this unique photo opportunity at the east end of the museum's trolley loop.

This is an example of 20 years of difference, in use by the pre CTA company Chicago Surface Lines. To the left is a 1944 White bus. The Chicago Surface Lines had a modest fleet of gasoline motor buses in use on either marginally patronized trolley routes, or on routes that were converted to bus operation during the 1940's. The 1944 White bus shown here, was frequently used on CSL and later CTA Routes like # 62 Archer /Cicero -47th Street,, # 54 A South Cicero Ave, and various other bus lines.

To the right is a 1923 Brill electric streetcar used on various trolley routes around the city of Chicago Illinois. Electric streetcar service ended in Chicago on June 21st , 1958, but this car was retired long beforehand.
The White buses lasted untill the late 1950's or early 1960's.
