1970's era Illinois Central Gulf covered hopper car. Hawthorne Junction. Chicago / Cicero Illinois USA. June 2008.
Railroad rolling stock from former and sometimes long gone railroads do show up occasionally on My railfan photo visits. seen here heading southbound on a Canadian National transfer train traveling over the Belt Railway of Chicago tracks, is an old
1972 era orange covered hopper car with faded 1972 era Illinois Central Gulf markings. The yellow reflective safety stripes were recent additions. Throughout the 1970's, the Illinois Central Gulf used these big and bold graphic roadname markings on their rolling stock. A simple black ICG later replaced this in 1981, dur to bankruptcy and economic cutbacks. Hawthorne Junction is located at the Chicago city limits, on the border at Cicero Illinois.
