The Grand trunk Western Elsdon Yard engine terminal. (Gone.) Chicago Illinois USA. October 1983.

Locomotives being serviced at the Grand Trunk Western RR Elsdon engine terminal. Chicago Illinois USA. October 1983.

I took this photo on a beautiful Autum day, in early October of 1983.
This was the Grand Trunk Western Railroad's Elsdon locomotive servicing facility, located just two blocks north of west 51st Street, and approximately two blocks west of the Elsdon roundhouse at West 49th Street and South Kedzie Avenue, in Chicago's Elsdon neighborhood. This was photographed during the official last week of operation at the old steam era Elsdon Yard and Roundhouse. The following week, this place was empty like an old ghost town. Notice the orange EMD diesel roadswitcher acquired from the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton Railroad in a 1981 merger.
