The Rock Island RR lives! Preserved steel cupola caboose from the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific RR on display. Tinley Park Illinois USA. June 2008.

The Rock Island lives! Tinley Park Illinois. June 2008.

Seen here along the east side of 80th Avenue just north of 171st Street, is this antique steel cupola caboose from the defunct Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad. The Rock Island Railroad suffered through severe bankruptcy conditions for many years, and officially gave up the railroad business in March of 1980.
It's nice to know that a few Rock Island remnants remain.

The Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific RR mainline actually passed through South Suburban Tinley Park Illinois. After the abandonment and liquidation of the Rock Island's assetts, the mainline through Tinley Park was sold off to Midwest regional railroad "Iowa Interstate". Metra commuter trains from Chicago to Joliet Illinois pass through Tinley Park daily, just like the Rock Island commuter trains did.
