Historic Photo! A New York Central Railroad class K-11 4-6-2 Pacific type passenger steam locomotive. 1940's?

Historic Photo! A New York Central Railroad class K 11 4-6-2 Pacific type passenger steam locomotive.

I found this photo recently on the internet.

When one thinks about the historic New York Central steam era passenger trains, many times images of J class 4-6-4 Hudson type steam locomotives, the 4-8-4 Niagra class Northerns, or even Streamlined 4-6-4 Hudsons on the 20th Century Limited come to mind.

Prior to 1927, these K-11 4-6-2 Pacific type steam locomotives, were actually the backbone of the New York Central Railroad passenger service fleet of steam locomotives for long distance trains. As the 20th Century Limited and other long distance mainline passenger trains became longer and heavier, these locomotives became inadequete to meet the demands placed on them.

Once the J class 4-6-4 Hudson type steam locomotives were introduced in 1927, the K -11 Class 4-6-2 Pacifics were shifted to smaller Secondary, Local and Commuter passenger trains. Some may have actually ended their days pulling freight trains.
One was known to have worked as a coach yard switcher at Chicago's La Salle Street Station downtown with a modified tender and a switcher style footboard pilot.

Judging by the style of New York Central roadname markings on the tender, this photo might have been taken at some point during the late 1940's era.
