Westbound Burlington Northern / Early Metra commuter train. Cicero Illinois USA. June 1986.
I took this photo looking east from the south platform, at the Cicero Avenue Metra commuter rail station way back in June of 1986.
Metra was a relatively new company when I took this photograph, and were still using these Burlington Northern rebuilt 1953 vintage EMD model E-9 passenger service cab unit diesel locomotives. The Burlington Northern Railroad and Metra, would retire them in September of 1992. One is currently awaiting restoration at The Illinois Railway Museum located in Union Illinois.
I used to railfan the Burlington Northern mainline in La grange Illinois during the 1980's, and have many happy memorys of the looks and unique sounds that these twin engined locomotives made working under load conditions.
