One of several railroads that had a major prescence on the southside of the city of Chicago Illinois during the steam era, was the Pennsylvania Railroad.

This locomotive, an H-8 Class 2-8-0 consolidation type, was used by the Pennsylvania Railroad on local freight trains, switching locals and some small degree of branchline passenger train assignments.. These locomotives were day to day work horses in Chicago and northwest Indiana.
