Chicago's Navy Pier. August 2008.

I took this photo from the top deck of the Oddysey # 2 sightseeing cruise boat, during an August 2008 family sightseeing boat cruise outing.

Chicago's Navy Pier, has been around since 1916, and was originally known as Chicago Municipal Pier. It has served many roles from recreational boating, a shiiping dock and warehouse, a Naval training facility during World War 2 and eventually...a place for entertainment and recreation along Chicago's lakefront.

Most of the original building structures along the pier were in very poor shape, and were demolished in 1990 to make way for todays new and improved Navy Pier entertainment complex.

Navy Pier in this original and yet run down condition, can be seen in the 1970's motion picture comedy "Cooley High," wich starred a young Garrett Morris from the NBC television comedy show Saturday Night Live.
