I took this photograph recently, at the Oak Park Society of Model Engineers,H.O Scale Model Railroad Club.
The 1960's were a colorful and sometimes not so colorful decade in American railroading.
Some railroads were gradually breaking away from the standard plain old box car red or oxidebrown color schemes from the steam era on some of their box car fleets, and choosing bigger and bolder stylish roadname graphics and logos.
The former Erie Lackawanna Railroad which was formed from the 1960 merger of the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western and the Erie Railroad, painted some of their standard 40 foot box cars in this gray color scjeme with maroon lettering.
Welcome to my rail fan page! Here you'll find information and pictures of railroad related items from the Chicagoland area, Wisconsin and Indiana. Enjoy your stay. All Aboard!
