I photographed this rare behind the scenes photo of museum support operations, on Friday, July 3rd 2009. I was on a family visit to the Illinois Railway Museum, located in Union Illinois. This photo looks like it could have been taken mere decades ago on an actual interurban electric railway line.
Some of the volunteer crew members of the Illinois Railway Museum, are seen here performing spot repairs and inspections of the overhead electrical wires along the museum's operating mainline. Utilizing an old electric steeple cab locomotive acquired from the Commonwealth Edison Company, and a retired line car from the defunct interurban Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee Railroad...This hard working, dedicated and very safety minded crew is getting the job done right today.
