Switching the south hump at the Atchinson, Topeka & santa Fe RR Corwith Yard. Chicago Illinois USA. April 1984.

Atchinson, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad rebuilt EMD GP -9 and slug unit switching the south hump at Corwith Yard. Chicago Illinois. April 1984.

I took this photo one pleasant Springtime afternoon, way back in April of 1984.

We are just a couple of city blocks east of South Lawndale Avenue near what would be West 49th Street on private property. I used to walk through here all the time back in the late 1970's and early 80's....and nobody ever seemed to mind at all back then.

An elderly rebuilt 1st Generation EMD model GP-9 from the Atchinson, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad originally built during the early 1950's, teams up with a non engined ballasted slug unit. This dynamic work a day duo, is viewed switching the south hump at the former A,T & S,F Corwith Yard on Chicago's southwest side.
