Chicago's NorthWestern Station downtown. (Gone.) Chicago Illinois USA. January 1984.

Chicago's NorthWestern Station. (Gone.) January 1984.

I took this photo during a January 1984 visit to the former NorthWestern Station ib downtown Chicago Illinois. The train on the right with a car or two still wearing the Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad colors and markings, was just getting underway and departing from the station. The cars to the left, are wearing the colors and markings of succesor 1970's era Chicago commuter train operator RTA.

NorthWestern Sration wich was located in the western portion of downtown Chicago at West Madison Street and surrounded by North Canal Street on the east, and North Clinton Street on the west, was in it;s final winter of operation as the 1911 built Northwestern Station. Demolition work would take place over the summer months, and the new main station concourse building, would be a new steel and glass modern syscraper originally named The NorthWesern Atrium Center. Af ter the Union Pacific acquired and absored the Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad during the mid 1990's, the building would be renamed the Richard B. Ogilvie Transportation Center in gonor of the late Illinois Govoner.
