Former Chicago Surface Lines trolley cars on West Lake Street near North Mayfield Avenue. Chicago Illinois USA. Circa early 1950's era.
I found this really wonderful rare historical color photograph on the internet, at a site known as Dave's Electric Railroads.
This photo from the early 1950's was taken on West Lake Street looking west near North Mayfield Avenue. This area is just east of the border of west suburban Oak Park Illinois near North Austin Boulevard.
Todays Chicago public transit agency known as the Chicago Transit Authority, began operations in the year of 1947. For the first few years or so, they operated with second hand buses and trolley cars from the predecessor company Chicago Surface Lines.
It was definately a much different Chicago back then.
