I took this photo while out enjoying a pleasant late summer evening bicycle ride, way back in early September of 1988.
We are at the South Austin Avenue railroad crossing near West 60th Street. This eastbound Santa Fe transfer freight train had just departed from the Belt Railway o Chicago Clearing Yard, and is now heading eastbound over the BRC near Chicago's Midway Airport. Notice the red SF locomotive from the failed merger attempt with Southern Pacific a few years before.
