I found this historic 1970's era photograph from the former Norfolk & Western Railroad at My Link page Fallen Flags.Org, located to the right of Your computer screen at www.rr-fallenflags.org

The 1970's were a fascinating time for fans of elderly first generation American diesel electric locomotives from the 1940's and 50's era. Just as the 1950's were a fascinating time for fans of the disappearing steam locomotives, the 1970's and 80's were also the begining of the end for older locomotives.

One of My favorites amongst the early first generation EMD cab unit locomotives that were still in operation in to the 1970's, were the 1950's era EMD model F 7 Cab Unit locomotives from the Norfolk & Western Railroad, wich were acquired through the 1964 merger with the Wabash Railroad. Some had a striking if not somewhat weather beaten dark blue and gray color scheme, while some were painted solid blue, and later ones were painted solid black with a white 1971 NW logo.

Railfan photographer Don Copolla, photographed this Norfolk & Western ex Wabash EMD F7 at Buffalo New York way back in January of 1977.

One of these former Wabash EMD F 7's acquired from the N & W, operates today in restored Wabash livery at the Monticello Railroad Museum in Illinois.
