Southbound CSX Transportation intermodal transfer train passing through Brighton Junction. ( Gone, Rebuilt.) Chicago Illinois. October 2006.

I took this photo during an overcast Autum morning, back in October of 2006.

We are facing north at Brighton Junction on the near southwest side of Chicago Illinois.

A southbound CSX Transportation Company intermodal transfer train, has just recieved permission to proceed through the then manually controlled "Stean Era" junction located just west of South Archer and Western Avenues.

Time was running out for this old fashioned junction with the Semaphore signals, as this was the final full year of service here. The following June, the Canadian National Railroad temporarilly closed Brighton Junction, removed the Semaphore signals and replaced them with new Block signals, and replaced the crosstracks with new ones.

Today, trains no longer have to stop before proceeding at Brighton Junction.
