Chesapeke & Ohio 2-8-2 Mikado type steam locomotive between assignments.

I found this historic photograph from the former Chesapeke & Ohio Railroad at my link page Yesteryear Depot.Com, located to the right of your computer screen at  www.yesteryeardepot.com

The Chesapeke & Ohio is one of those railroads, that somehow has not seen much exposure here at Eddie's Railfan Page. I thought that it would be nice to include a photo here today at my blogsite, for all the C & O fans who read Eddie's Railfan Page as well.

No information was given as to where the location of this photograph was taken, or what year it was.
C & O steam locomotice # 2742, is a large 2-8-2 Mikado type steam locomotive used primarilly in freight train service. As typical of the C & O's late steam era machines, this one has front mounted air pumps which some railfans found ugly.

These locomotives were "Serious Business" on the C & O, and pulled numerous transfer and mainline freight trains until they were retired from service in 1955, when the C & O dieselized.
