Southbound Metra leaving the Forest Glen depot. Chicago Illinois USA. August 2007.

I took this mid day photo from the Metra Forest Glen commuter flagstop depot, on Chicago's far northwest side. Putting out a big show of smoke, is a Motive Power Industries MPI MP 36 PH passenger locomotive used by Chicago's Metra, and other commuter agencys around North America. It was almost as though this locomotive was imitating the steam locomotives of decades past, as it blows smoke under starting load conditions. These engines also produce their own distinct sound as they start up under heavy load conditions.

This reminds Me of the old Alco diesel locomotives on the Rock Island railroad. They would really smoke under heavy loads.
