Tuskegee Railroad # 101 backing up to the engine shop. The Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois USA. September 1983.

I took this backlit sunset photo at the Illinois Railway Museum, during the September 1983 Members Weekend. The operating session has come to an end, and the museum has already closed for the day. Tuskegee Railroad # 101, a small 2-6-2 shortline steam locomotive, is backing onto the enginehouse lead, and will soon be shut down for the night. On many past visits to the Illinois Railway Museum during the 1980's and 90's...I found out that one of the best times to photograph equipment at the museum, was actuallyu after closing time. After the museum closes and the crowds leave, You can capture working photographs of equipment and locomotives being switched in the various museum yards and diisplay barns, take in a nice sunset, stroll the grounds, and even have pleasant conversation with some of the crews.

It is amazing to me that somebody in Illinois, not even from Alabama/Tuskegee, has more info on The Tuskegee Railroad than the freaking state of Alabama. Just incredible. Thank you for your site.
