Switching in the hot summer sun at Crawford Yard. Chicago Illinois USA. August 2007.

I took this photo after work one day, in early August of 2007. A two unit Canadian National set of roadswitchers, still painted for former pre merger railroads Illinois Central and Grand Trunk Western, are backing a cut of tank cars into Crawford Yard. The locomotives and cars, are using part of the interchange lead at Hawthorne Junction. Hawthorne Junction is located just east of the Chicago city limits near Cicero Illinois. At Hawthorne Junction, the Canadian National ex Illinois Central Iowa Division Mainline crosses and interchanges with the Belt Railway of Chicago. It was a very hot day with an outside temperature reading of 96 degrees farenheight, and the humidity in the air made it feel like a steam bath.
