Canadian National switching tank cars at Crawford Yard. Chicago Illinois USA. Early April 2007.

One of My occasional activities I enjoy doing after work, is visiting the former Illinois Central's Crawford Yard and nearby Hawthorne Junction near the Chicago city limits. Seen here in the very early Springtime with plenty of barren left over winter scenery, are two locomotives acquired through merger from the GTW and I.C at work putting together unit tank trains at Crawford Yard. The two locomotives are seen on one of the interchange leads at Hawthorne Junction just west of the little freight yard. The interchange lead on the east side of the Belt Railway of Chicago railroad line, is used as a switching lead for lenghty back and forth tank car movements at nearby Crawford Yard, just to the left and out of view in the photo.
