I took this photo on a Family vacation to Colorado way back in the year of 1981. The steam powered Durango & Silverton narrow guage railroad was operated untill 1981 by it's original owner the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad. In 1981, the D&RGW sold the narrow guage branchline now used for tourist operations to a private franchise operator. Seen here operating for the newly formed Durango & Silverton Railroad, is a 1920's vintage Baldwin locomotive works 3 foot guage heavy 2-8-2 Mikado type steam locomotive waiting at the Silverton Colorado station. The steam powered 45 mile Durango and Silverton Railroad, is a popular Colorado tourist railroad today.Welcome to my rail fan page! Here you'll find information and pictures of railroad related items from the Chicagoland area, Wisconsin and Indiana. Enjoy your stay. All Aboard!
