The Summit Illinois Metra and Amtrak passenger depot. Summit Illinois USA. October 2006.
I took this photo on an overcast October morning in 2006. This is the Metra commuter rail depot in Summit Illinois, wich is also shared by Amtrak regional trains.
Just over the tracks to the north was the Illinois & Michigan Canal built in the 1840's and until I55 was built there were squatter's shacks along the north bank facing south at this point. Highway 171 was Lawndale Avenue and ran west off Center Street with a two lane steel bridge over the Sanitary Canal and concrete bridge over the DesPlaines. Major changes here!
