Seasonal parking lot sealcoating preparations. Chicago Illinois USA. Late August 2007.

I took this photo in the parking lot of the CVS Pharmacy, at 6200 West Higgins Avenue on Chicago's northwest side. Summer was nearing the end, as a local pavement maintenance contractor already has this piece of tarring equipment on location. Chicagoland winters have been known to be harsh on concrete and asphalt.

In many places around the Windy City, late summer and early fall can find many a business parking lot or residential driveway, getting a protective coating to preserve the asphalt. This machine provides hot tar for the workers to spread across the paved surfaces, and seal the many cracks errosions and imperfections caused by inclement weather and scorching summers.
