Rare photograph! Construction of the CTA Orange line to Midway Airport. Phase # 1. Demolition of the IHB Stockyards branch. January 1989.

I took this photo way back in January of the year 1989. The railroad track in the foreground, is the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad Stockyards branch. The IHB Stockyards branch was officially abandoned in December of 1988, and the rails are seen being pulled up off of the right of way. The cranes and various pieces of construction equipment and materials, are being used for the construction of the then "New" Chicago Transit Authority Orange line to Chicago's Midway Airport. The equipment is seen just east of South Pulaski Road, just south of Chicago's Curie High School. I attended Curie from 1977 to 1981.
