The outskirts of the city of Chicago in 1951? No. Just the east end of the trolley loop at the Illinois Railway Museum.August 2000.

I took this photograph during an August 2000 visit to the Illinois Railway Museum located in Union Illinois. The day I had visited, they were having an antique transportation show with several visiting owners of vintage cars, trucks, and buses. The early 1950's automobile, the old 1908 Chicago Surface Lines electric streetcar, and the 1951 CTA Marmon Herrington electric trolley bus, helped to create what could have been a scene at one of the Chicago city limits locations decades ago. The old red CSL streetcars from the early 1900's were rolling out their last miles, and were officially retired in 1954. The green and off white Marmon Herrington trolley buses, operated on Chicago city streets from 1951, to the end of electric bus service in 1973.
