Gerties Ice Cream at the Ford City East location. Chicago Illinois. October 1982.

I took this photograph, way back in October of 1982.

I was attending an adult education evening photography course at Chicago's Daley College. This was one of the first 35 mm night time photographs I had taken.

During the early 1980's, the Ford City Shopping Center Mall, experimented with an east end extension to their mall property at South Pulaski Road and West 76th Street, and named it "Ford City East".Although this satelite location of the Ford City Shopping Center Mall featured a movie theatre and a handful of stores when it first opened, it failed to meet up to expectations in the long run, and many of the storefronts would remain empty. The Ford City East Theatres would eventually close as well.

One of the early business at Ford City East, was this Gerties Ice Cream store seen here in the photograph.

Thanks.
Eddie K.
