Hello everybody!Welcome to "Bus Day" here at Eddie's Railfan Page. I took this photo at the CTA Route # 52 Kedzie / California Avenue south terminal turn around loop, located at South Kedzie Avenue and West 63rd Place. It is late March of 1986, and the veteran mid 1960's era Flxible transit coaches with the standee windows and fluted siding, are rolling out their final service miles. Behind the old bus by the Billboards, are two replacement 1985 M.A.N transit buses from West Germany. Behind the old Flxible bus, is the Marquette theatre building wich would soon be demolished. 1986 was yet another changing era of some sort in the city of Chicago Illinois.

I used to go shopping in this neighborhood with My Family.
I spent lots of time catching buses at this terminal as a kid.

I did a little research on this bus turning loop. Prior to March 15th 1969, the buses that were used on the Route # 52 Kedzie/ California Avenue bus line, were the old 1951 vintage Marmon Herrington electric trolley coaches that had two spring loaded trolley poles, and twin overhead wires on each side of the street. I can remember riding these on this line, as My Family made many shopping trips to 63rd and Kedzie. The Route # 52A South Kedzie buses employed the early 1960's vintage GMC TDH series fishbowl buses.
After the twin overhead trolley wires were removed, the old 1940's and 50's Twin Coach propane buses were used, and later CTA GMC and Flxible fishbowl transit coaches.
