Chicago winter railroading. January 1988.

Chicago Winter Railroading. January 1988.

I captured this timeless image of the human side of railroading, on a January 1988 visit to Chicago's Brighton Junction. The crew of three southbound Conrail locomotives running light, has recieved a hold order from the dispatcher. Just
below the railroad embankment, and very conveniently located at the bottom of a
dirt road service road driveway, is a Burger King fast food restaurant on adjacent
South Archer Avenue near the intersection at Western Avenue. Hold orders can sometimes unfortunately last for hours. This crew has made the best of it, as two members walked down the service road driveway, and brought back hot sandwiches and
large cups of coffee. This crew is definately making the best of it all on a cold
Chicago winter afternoon.
