Vintage transit equipment from the Chicago Surface Lines. The Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois USA. June 2001.

21 years of Chicago Surface Lines equipment and technology at the Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois. June 2001.

Before there was the Chicago Transit Authority, there was a public transportation company in the Windy City known as the Chicago Surface Lines. The Chicago Surface Lines was primarily an electric streetcar operator, but actually did have a fleet of buses as well. Seen here at the Illinois Railway Museum, located in Union Illinois, are a 1944 White transit bus and a 1922 Electric streetcar. Both served the citizens of Chicago well for many years.

The Chicago Transit Authority as We have known it for many years, was formed in 1947.
