Northbound railroad traffic jam on the Belt Railway of Chicago. Chicago Illinois USA. Late November 2006.
I took this photo on an overcast morning in late November of 2006. A northbound Iowa, Chicago & Eastern freight train, has to wait in line behind another freight train at the Union Pacific flyover junction at West Kinzie Street near North Kenton Avenue. Approximately one mile ahead is Cragin Junction, where the Belt Railway of Chicago train traffic interchanges with the Canadian Pacific ex Milwaukee Road line.
The Canadian Pacific was busy at the time with numerous morning rush hour Metra commuter trains, causing these freight trains to wait for clearance to proceed through Cragin Junction.
