Northbound Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad transfer train passing Argo Tower. ( Gone.) Summit Illinois USA. December 1990.

Northbound Chicago & NorthWestern RR freight train passing Argo Tower. (gone) December 1990.

I found this classic photo in My Flickr Archives, and decided to deicate it in honor of Lin who recently became a follower here at Eddie's Railfan Page.

Lin is a former employee of the fallen flag railroad Chicago & NorthWestern, and I thought that it would be nice to surprise her today with this vintage photo.
Lin, this one is for You.

This photo was taken in early December of 1990, at Argo Junction in southwest suburban Summit Illinois near the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal. A northbound Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad transfer freight train, is seen traveling over the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad past Argo Junction and interlocking tower. It was rather mild for December that day, with temperatures in the mid to upper 50's. Definately a nice day to go railfanning on My bicycle. ( I didn't own My 1st car yet)

Argo tower was in it's last few years of service, and was closed in 1993. It was slowly dismantled in stages from 1993 to 1995. The Chicago & NorthWestern was also in it's last decade of service, and would be acquired through merger by the Union Pacific in 1998.

Thanks.
Eddie K.

Beautiful CNW green and yellow! Thanks, Eddie! My last day at the CNW was 7/31/1995. The acquisition by UP took place that summer. I had lots of good times and memories from those days, still remain in touch with some friends, AND am vested in Railroad Retirement, so it's all good! Love the picture!
