A retired Chicago & Northwestern Railroad steam era baggage car turned gift shop. The Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois. friday, july 3rd 2009.

Wow! Talk about "Alternative Re-Use".
This old 1920's era standard heavy weight baggage car, was originally used by the Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad on their fleet of passenger trains decades ago.

This car operated for many years in the standard Pulman Green, or "Olive Drab" plain color scheme common on passenger trains before the advent of the colorful and modern passenger trains known as "The Streamliners". Cars like this and a handful of the other heavyweight passenger cars, would also recieve the yellow and green streamliner color scheme used by the Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad as well.

Cars like these, were often demoted in to M.O.W or Maintenance of Way service upon retirement and replacement from passenger train service duties. Today, this baggage car has a new lease on life as one of the Illinois Railway Museum's Gift Shop cars.
