I took this photo on location, in near northwest suburban Franklin Park Illinois. Parked alongside preserved historic tower # B-12, visiting Southern Pacific oil burning steam locomotive # 4449 made a fine sight. This locomotive was built in May of 1941 by the Lima Locomotive Works of Lima Ohio. It was retired from active service during the mid 1950's, and placed on display at Oaks Park in Portland Oregon.

After mechanical restoration was performed in 1974 to 1975, this locomotive pulled the American Freedom Train during the United State's Bi Centenial Celebration.

Based in Portland Oregon, this locomotive occasionally pulls chartered mainline excursions on the west coast. With the recent Train Festt 2009 in Owosso Michigan, # 4449 visited the midwest and pulled a handful of mainline excursions before returning home to Portland Oregon.
