Selling souveniers to raise money for steam locomotive preservation. Franklin Park Illinois. Saturday, August 1st 2009.

On Saturday, August 1st 2009...I visited near northwest suburban Franklin Park Illinois, after recieving a much appreciated E-Mail tip from fellow Chicago railfan Franklin Campbell.

On display adjacent to preserved historic tower B-12, was visiting Southern Pacific "daylight" steam locomotive # 4449 built by the Lima Locomotive Works in the year of 1941. This modern and semi streamlined 4-8-4 Northern type steam locomotive, origianlly pulled the Southern Pacific Railroad "Morning Daylight" passenger train between Los Angeles and San Francisco California.

Adjacent to the fired up and under steam locomotive display, was this make shift souvenier stand. This was from a group located in Mineapolis Minnesota that has leased and operated preserved Milwaukee Road 4-8-4 steam locomotive # 261 from the National Railway Museum in Green Bay Wisconsin. Locomotive # 261 is currently dismantled and undergoing overhaul. Steam operation is expensive, and this group was doing a fine job of fund raising amongst local Chicago area railfans this day.

I bought a gray Southern Pacific # 4449 Daylight T Shirt Myself.
