The Chicago city limits during the 1950's? No. The Illinois Railway Museum in August of 2000. Union Illinois USA.

The east trolley loop curve at the Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois. August 2000.

I took this photo during an August 2000 visit to the Illinois Railway Museum, located in the town of Union Illinois. It was a special occasion weekend at the IRM, as they were celebrating their vintage transportation extravaganza.

I took this photo at the northeast curve on the museum's demonstration trolley loop. The classic 1950's era vintage automobile in the foreground, Chicago Surface Lines electric streetcar # 144 built in 1908, and the CTA Marmon Herrington trolley bus built in 1951 in the background...gives this photo the illusion of being photographed somewhere at the Chicago city limits during the 1950's.

Chicago Surface Lines car # 144 operated in regular service until May of 1954. It was kept on the CTA roster for special occasions and charters, until the end of all Chicago streetcar service in June of 1958.
