Southbound Belt Railway of Chicago switching local at Hawthorne Junction. Chicago / Cicero Illinois. March 1987.

It's hard to believe that it has actually been twenty two years ago when I had taken this photograph at the Chicago city limits.

Seen here on a sunny but chilly March afternoon in 1987, is a southbound Belt Railway of Chicago switching local. The train is about to pass through the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad crosstracks at the border of west suburban Cicero Illinois.
The BRC local is enroute to Clearing Yard, located in Bedford Park Illinois near Chicago's Midway Airport, with a short freight train in tow.

Alas, all those BRC switchers are now long gone.
