Preserved CTA 1951 Marmon Herington trolley bus. The Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois. September 1982.

I took this photo at the September 1982 Members Weekend at the Illinois Railway Museum, located in Union Illinois. Seen here is one of two preserved Chicago Transit Authority 1951 built Marmon Herrington electric trolley buses. These buses were used in daily Chicago Transit Authority electric bus route operations from 1951, until the official end of Chicago electric bus service on March 25th, 1973. This example, and the other preserved CTA 1951 Marmon Herrington trolley bus at the Illinois Railway Museum...made the official last runs in Chicago in 1973.

I was born in 1962, and had witnessed and ridden these unique transit buses during their final years of operation on Chicago city streets as a Young Boy growing up in the city of Chicago Illinois. I frequently rode the CTA Route # 52 Kedzie / California Avenue bus line with My Family when they were still using these until 1969, when the CTA Route # 52 Kedzie / California Avenue bus line was converted to diesel bus operation.
