Downtown Detroit Michigan USA during the 1950's.

This 1950's era Detroit michigan photograph, was photographed either on the Woodward or gratiot streetcar line toward the end of the line.

This photo comes to Eddie's Railfan Page via a website known as "Dave's Electric Railroad's" on the internet.

There is nothing like a rare color vintage photograph taken in any North American city during the immediate post war era.

This photograph was taken in the downtown section in the city of Detroit Michigan at some point during the early to mid 1950's. A streamlined PCC electric streetcar from the Detroit Department of Street Railways, is viewed nearing the end of the line either on Woodward or Gratiot (Pronounced "Grah-Shett") Avenues.

Notice the vintage red White cabover tractor and trailer truck in the traffic.

I am trying to find the name of a men's clothier that was located just west of woodward and north of jefferson and was on the south side of a small park or streetcar area. It had a double name not unlike Hughes & Hatcher. Both of my brothers worked there before being drafted in to military for WWII. They are gone now and would like to bring back some of those memories. djdax17@hotmail.com

Today you'd be standing under the Joe Louis fist, looking down Jefferson at the Cobo Hall overpass in the distance. The One Woodward Ave. building now stands at the corner seen here, the United News store is featured in the next card.
