Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee interurban railroad logo. The Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois. Friday, July 3rd 2009.

I took this photo inside one of the many display barns last year at The Illinois Railway Museum located in the town of Union Illinois.

Corporate logos or insignias from historic and long gone railroads from the past, are in abundance at the Illinois Railway Museum, and always a good source of reference material.

This logo is on the side of a preserved 1920's era electric powered interurban M.U coach from the long gone Chicago, North Shore and Milwaukee Railroad. This electric high speed interurban line operated between Chicago Illinois and Milwaukee Wisconsin traveling through Chicago's far northern suburbs, and entering downtown Chicago via the Chicago Rapid Transit Company and later Chicago Transit Authority elevated rapid transit structure. The Chicago, North Shore and Milwaukee went out of business due to bankruptcy in January of 1963.

The Chicago Transit Authority's yellow line in north suburban Skokie and Evanston Illinois, is a 5 mile segment of the North Shore's own Skokie Valley Mainline that is operated today as an electric rail line.
