South Archer Avenue in Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood. Chicago Illinois. June 2008.

Hello everyone!

Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page from the city of Chicago Illinois.
I took this photo one hot summer afternoon back in June of 2008. Being from the near southwest side of Chicago Myself, I occasionaly enjoy researching My Chicago roots.

I did not grow up in Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood on the southside, but had always found it fascinating nonetheless. Once You got past the gritty, blue color working class factory district and local sometimes "Dive" neighborhood taverns, Bridgeport had a unique neighborhood charm all of it's own. With it's close geographc location to downtown Chicago and the adjacent Chinatown neighborhood, Bridgeport is an area that had seen recent economic growth and real estate redevelopement during the 1980's and 90's.

Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood is historic, as it was located along the now long gone Illinois and Michigan Canal. It is also the home of the Chicago White Sox American Leaque Baseball Team, the birthplace of Chicago's famous Connie's Pizza and Riccobennie's Italian Beef, and for many years....the neighborhood and residence of Chicago Mayors Richard J. Daley and His son Richard M. Daley.

This photo was taken late in the afternoon looking west on South Archer Avenue just east of the intersection of South Locke Street near Ashland Avenue.

Thanks.
Eddie K.
